At the end of it all, the signature was purely a formality - Clemens Fritz has extended his contract as SV Werder Bremen’s director of professional football and scouting. This was announced by Green-Whites chief executive Frank Baumann on Saturday.
“Clemens has had a very intensive year. In what was a difficult summer transfer window, he did an outstanding job and was a big factor as to why our squad was strong enough to achieve promotion back to the Bundesliga. In addition, his role within the team has changed somewhat, so that he is now working more closely with the team and from a communication perspective, he has taken on a more public, more active role. We’re very pleased with how he has embraced the role overall,” commented Frank Baumann, who has often expressed how satisfied he is with the work of Clemens Fritz in recent weeks. “Therefore, this contract extension had been on our mind from an early stage.”
When questioned on this topic, Clemens Fritz calmly answered: “I’ve always spoken out about how happy I am in my current role. We’ve put several intensive weeks behind us, during which there were several other issues to deal with. After sealing promotion, it was time to formalise and finalise what we had actually known for some time. I’m really pleased to be able to continue playing an active role in shaping Werder Bremen in the future.”
