Being able to celebrate a 4-0 home win is one thing. The circumstances surrounding the last few weeks made the victory against FC Erzgebirge Aue even sweeter for Marvin Ducksch, as he mentioned in an interview: “When you look at how well we did and what we have got over in the last few weeks, I’m just super satisfied and delighted.”

Werder’s first two goals were the biggest cause for our number 7’s celebration. Romano Schmid’s opener was his first goal in German professional football. “When you see how desperate he was at times, and how many good situations he got into and just wasn’t able to put the ball in, I’m delighted for him. He’s been trying so hard to score for Werder.” Schmid’s wonderful strike was also the “bottle opener for a good game where we delivered”, said Ducksch.

Milos Veljkovic, who was also back in the team following an injury, also scored a fantastic, Zlatan Ibrahimovic-esque goal, flicking the ball from behind him in over his head in a “scorpion kick”. It was more than enough reason for our very own goal scoring expert in Ducksch to call it a “World-class goal! He meant to do that, definitely. It absolutely deserves to be in the category of ‘Goal of the Month’”, said Ducksch.

It’s no accident that our strike force of Ducksch and Niclas Füllkrug is working so well. “Yeah, we’ve sat down now and again and given each other some ideas,” explained Ducksch. “It’s working brilliantly at the moment; we understand each other and I think it’ll keep getting better week by week!” he said in an interview at the weekend
