The European Championship gets underway on Friday, with 24 teams on the hunt for the trophy. Three Werder players will be involved for three different countries. Left-back Ludwig Augustinsson (Sweden), goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka (Czech Republic) and defender Marco Friedl (Austria) will be looking to reach the final in London.

Group C: Austria, the Netherlands, Ukraine and North Macedonia.
Defender Marco Friedl will be the first Werder player in action, as his Austria take on North Macedonia on Sunday (13.06.2021) at 18:00 CEST. The 23-year-old has appeared in two of Austria's last three games. In the 1-0 defeat to England, Friedl played 90 minutes in what was only his third full international cap. A successful group stage would see Austria reach to the last 16 of the European Championship for the first time in their history.

On Monday (13/06/2021, 15:00 CEST), goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka will begin his EUROs campaign with Czech Republic, as they face Scotland. Werder first-choice keeper played the full 90 minutes in a friendly against Italy last week (4-0 defeat). It was Pavlenka's 14th cap for his country.

Ludwig Augustinsson will also play his first group stage game on Monday (14/06/2021, 21:00 CEST) as Sweden face 2012 champions Spain. The 27-year-old left-back had been dealing with a mucle injury, but was recently able to return to team training. Augustinsson has made 32 appearances for Sweden so far.
