"It wasn’t our best game, but we are happy with the three points," said Ludwig Augustinsson, summing up Werder’s Wednesday night Bundesliga clash away to Arminia Bielefeld. The 2-0 win saw SVW reach the 30 point mark for the season. "We are eleven points clear of the relegation zone now and have taken a big step in the right direction," says Maximilian Eggestein.

On the game:

Maximilian Eggestein: "We made a couple of changes at half time and changed the system. I think that was key to being better in possession. We could have made more of the counterattacks with the man advantage, but in the end it’s the three points that matter. It was a big step in the right direction."

Florian Kohfeldt: "It was a proper battle. In the second half we were the slightly better team. In the first half Bielefeld were by far the better team, that has to be said. We didn’t manage to create anything in possession or even play out from the back. I hope this step will also give our confidence and courage a boost."

Josh Sargent: "Both teams needed to win today so it was a really important victory for us. Bielefeld had more control of the game in the first half – we scored one on the counter right at the start of the second half which was very important."

Ludwig Augustinsson: "It was a very, very important win and we’ve now widened the points gap to the relegation zone. It wasn’t our best game, but in the end it was enough for the three points. That’s what it comes down to. We are very pleased with the three points."

Marco Friedl: “We knew that it would be a hard-fought game today and Arminia would be strong in duels. They pressed us hard and forced us to play long balls over the top. We didn’t start well as has been the case in a few games recently. We changed up the system at half time and took our chances in the second half, so we deserved to win.”

On the table:

Florian Kohfeldt: “We have built up a big gap between us and the relegation zone and we’re now eleven points clear. There are still ten games to play and we’re in a good position. But I would like to underline the fact that it’s not over yet. We have some top teams left to play and the next few weeks will be very tough for us. We need to pick up as many points as possible from the rest of the season.”

Marco Friedl: “We knew that it was two points lost and not a point gained against Köln. We let them slip away and that was very frustrating for us. That's why it was doubly important to win today."

On the importance of Josh Sargent to the team:

Marco Friedl: "I’m very pleased for Josh that he’s been able to reward himself for strong performances in recent games, and again today. He works unbelievably hard for the team – covers a lot of ground off the ball and even when he’s completely shattered he keeps on giving everything for the team."
