A defensive boost for Werder ahead of the weekend! Head coach Florian Kohfeldt will be able to count on centre-backs Milos Veljkovic and Ömer Toprak for Saturday’s match against RB Leipzig (15:30 CEST) following their return from injury.
Veljkovic returned home early from international duty due to an adductor problem and sat out the last league match against VfB Stuttgart. The Serbian international missed the 1-0 cup win in Regensburg along with Toprak, who was kept out of the game with a back issue. “Both will be able to play tomorrow against Leipzig,” revealed Florian Kohfeldt at Friday’s pre-match press conference.
Werder will be missing a total of four players for the clash against Julian Nagelsmann’s side. Maxi Eggestein picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Stuttgart and is therefore suspended, while Niclas Füllkrug (broken toe), Nick Woltemade (torn ligament), and Ludwig Augustinsson (thigh strain) will miss the game through injury. “Niclas Füllkrug should be back for the Dortmund match if all goes well with his recovery. We're also aiming for the same with Ludwig Augustinsson, but it will be tight. He will be back for the Mainz game at the latest though,” reported Kohfeldt.
