Werder’s pre-season for 2021/22 in the 2. Bundesliga will officially begin on Saturday. New head coach Markus Anfang will lead his players onto the training ground for the first time, including Kevin Möhwald, Felix Agu, Niclas Füllkrug, Ömer Toprak, Maximilian Eggestein, Leonardo Bittencourt and new signing Anthony Jung. However, not all players will be available for Anfang.

Players that have been or are still away on international duty will not be there on Saturday. Those are: Josh Sargent (returns on 29th June), Romano Schmid (23rd June), Ilia Gruev (23rd June), Milot Rashica (25th June), Yuya Osako (25th June) plus the trio who were/are at EURO 2020 (Ludwig Augustinsson, Marco Friedl and Jiri Pavlenka).

Milos Veljkovic is only expected back in Bremen after this weekend due to personal reasons. Simon Straudi and Benjamin Goller will also be missing as they are in talks with other clubs. Oscar Schönfelder is injured, while Johan Mina and Dominik Becker will work individually with rehab coach Marcel Abanoz on their return from injuries.

David Philipp, Kebba Badjie, Abdenego Nankishi, Niklas Schmidt, Kyu-Hyun Park, Yannik Engelhardt and Thore Jacobsen will join the first team for Saturday’s session.

Unfortunately, both sessions this weekend have to take place without fans due to the current restrictions in Bremen. As soon as fans are allowed again, Werder will train in front of spectators.
