Josh Sargent paused for a second after his 62nd minute goal that put Werder ahead. "I thought it was offside, so I didn’t know whether I could celebrate or not," says the American, who had already seen a goal disallowed for offside in the first half. The goal counted the second time around, to the delight of Sargent. "For a striker, it’s always important to score,” says our number 19. "Especially when you’ve put so much work in – I wanted to get that goal as a reward. It was a big relief."
The result should fill Sargent and his teammates with confidence going into the next few games. Werder are straight back inaction on Tuesday in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final against Regensburg. "Cup games like this are never easy. Regensburg will fight and so will we," says Sargent looking ahead to the game. "We definitely feel like we have the opportunity to go deep in the cup this year. We believe in ourselves."
