SV Werder Bremen's sporting director Frank Baumann announced on Wednesday that the Green-Whites have ended Luca Plogmann’s loan spell at SV Meppen early. The 20-year-old goalkeeper will return to Bremen with immediate effect.
“In light of his serious injury, it is likely that Luca would not have featured for SV Meppen again this season. For this reason, we’ve taken the decision to recall him ahead of schedule so that we can coordinate his rehabilitation programme here at Werder. It makes more sense for all parties to have him here in Bremen while he recovers,” explained Frank Baumann. Nevertheless, Werder’s sporting director had a positive view of the loan period: “The spell at Meppen has done Luca a lot of good and he’s been able to pick up key match practice and experience. It’s extremely unfortunate that his development there was interrupted by such a serious injury. The plan now is to build him back up to match fitness in rehabilitation and then introduce him to training again.”
Luca Plogmann joined third tier SV Meppen last summer and made eight appearances for the side managed by Torsten Frings. The 20-year-old picked up a serious knee injury playing away at Dresden at the end of October and has been sidelined since then.
