Osako headed home a cross from teammate Yuto Nagatomo to make it 2-0 in the 22nd minute. Shortly after, Hiroki Sakai was brought down in the box, with Osako stepping up to convert from the spot. He then completed his hat-trick in the 36th minute. After the change of ends, Osako then picked up where he left off.
He made it 5-0 in the 49th minute, before setting up Southampton's Takumi Minamino to make it 7-0 (65'). Osako then headed home his fifth goal of the game in the dying minutes (87') to seal a 10-0 triumph for Japan, who continue to top their qualifying group.
