With the first victory of the season under their belts, the Werder team are working hard ahead of the third fixture of the season this weekend. Following the trip to Gelsenkirchen, the Green-Whites welcome DSC Arminia Bielefeld to the wohninvest WESERSTADION on Saturday (15:30 CEST). Werder midfielder Maxi Eggestein discussed the upcoming fixture and the win against Schalke in a midweek press conference on Wednesday morning.

Maximilian Eggestein on...

...the atmosphere in the squad following the Schalke victory: “It was really noticeable that the atmosphere amongst the boys was great on Sunday and Monday, which we had off. Yesterday at training, the coach made sure that the focus shifted to the next game though, to emphasise the importance of the Bielefeld match. In the two days after the win, it was a mixture of relief and a sense that we have to keep the momentum up.”

...his position in midfield: “I feel comfortable in both defensive and central midfield. You have to be more disciplined in defensive midfield. In central midfield, you have more freedom as you don’t have to cover the defence. Playing in defensive midfield, you always have more responsibility. You see more of the game and have to be more of a leader.”

...the home match against DSC Arminia Bielefeld: In the next few weeks, we have to prove that we can build on the Schalke performance. The commitment and the aggression we showed against Schalke was very good. Now it’s a matter of keeping up this attitude from game to game and improving our football at the same time. Bielefeld have already won four points and were champions of the Bundesliga 2 last season. We know that we'll be facing a tough opponent.”

...fans in the stadium: “It makes a massive difference when the fans are there. We all love playing in front of the fans. It’s just much better when they’re in the stadium. At the moment, we’re training for the game under the assumption that the fans will be present in the stadium.”
