Head coach Florian Kohfeldt announced an important decision regarding the Werder team at the pre-match press conference on Thursday. Following the departure of former vice-captain Davy Klaassen, Kohfeldt has named Theodor Gebre Selassie as second-in-command to captain Niklas Moisander. Maximilian Eggestein will be third choice captain.

“I’ve chosen Theo because of his loyalty and passion for the club, which he shows in every training session and in every game he plays for Werder. The same applies to Maxi who, despite his young age, is already a leader amongst the squad,” explained Florian Kohfeldt.
