SV Werder Bremen’s first home game of the season will take place with 8,500 fans in attendance. The local government in Bremen agreed on Sunday morning to allow the wohninvest WESERSTADION to open to fans to 20% of total capacity for Werder Bremen’s fixture against Hertha BSC.

The relaxation of restrictions is due to the current level of Coronavirus infections in the region and Werder’s hygiene measures, which have been singled out for particular praise by the authorities.

The local government in Bremen is expecting a decision to be made nationwide in the coming days on how many fans can attend matches. The decision to allow 8,500 fans has been made now to allow Werder Bremen time to prepare for the game in six days.

“It’s great news for SV Werder Bremen. We’re pleased about this outcome after very constructive discussions with the authorities in Bremen, and we’d like to thank them for having the foresight to allow us time to prepare for the game next week. We underpinned our wish for a relaxation of restrictions with very detailed hygiene measures, and we’re glad that the experts consider such measures to be well thought through and very professional. I’d like to thank all those who have been working on them in the last few weeks,” says Werder’s president Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald. “We’re looking forward to our first home game with fans since the end of February – we’ve missed them. Even if this is just a start, it’s an important signal that we’re keen to find ways to live with the pandemic. We are determined to justify the authorities’ trust in us, and to prepare for and hold the fixture in meticulous fashion.”
