SV Werder Bremen are pleased to announce the first singing ahead of next season in the second division: Anthony Jung, 29 years old, joins on a free transfer from Danish champions Brøndby IF, as per an agreement between club executives and the defender from Eintracht Frankfurt’s academy.

"We are happy to be acquiring an experienced professional in Anthony Jung. He had a really important role both on and off the pitch at Brøndby. Anthony turned down both a very good offer from Brøndby and an offer from the Bundesliga in order to join Werder and be successful here," revealed Frank Bauman, Werder’s sporting director.

Head coach Markus Anfang is looking forward to having a versatile left-footer in the team. "Anthony can play in a back three and in several positions across a back four. He is very versatile. He was promoted twice with RB Leipzig and he has won both the Danish league and the Danish cup in Copenhagen. He will provide the team with positive energy and a winning mentality, both of which will be important for us after suffering relegation."

Jung: "I didn’t need long to make a decision!"

Anthony Jung is excited about his new challenge in Bremen: "After a good four years in Copenhagen which ended successfully with the league title, I am looking forward to returning to Germany. When I got the call from Werder Bremen and Markus Anfang, I didn’t need long to make a decision. It will be an incredibly exciting league with a lot of big clubs. I can hardly wait to get started with Werder and try to be successful."

Jung made 145 appearances for Brøndby in the last four years. He played a total of 64 games for RB Leipzig and FSV Frankfurt in the second division. He then played 16 Bundesliga games for FC Ingolstadt in 2016/17 before moving to Denmark a year later.
