SV Werder Bremen have arranged to organise shorter working hours for many of their employees. This was announced by the Bundesliga club’s directors. The decision was reached in response to the effects of social distancing measures, put in place due to the spread of coronavirus. These measures have brought Werder’s core business activities to a standstill, including training for the various sports within the club and custom at establishments such as the fan shop or the soccer centre BOLZEREI. Social engagement initiatives, which are not feasible in the current circumstances, have also been put on hold.

"We have acted on our corporate responsibility, held lots of talks with our employees and in the end we decided on this course of action," said Klaus Filbry, chairman of the board, on Thursday morning.

Aside from this, Werder players and coaches are sending a strong signal by waiving part of their salaries, an initiative suggested by the players themselves. Prior to this, Werder’s three managing directors had already declared that they would be waiving a portion of their salary. Filbry sees this joint effort as a very important message. "We are pleased to have this kind of solidarity and sense of togetherness at Werder, showing a special connection to this football club. Of course we hope this situation will change as quickly as possible and that we can welcome all of our staff back to work again," said the chairman of the board.
