A new addition to the Werder Bremen squad: Defender Kevin Vogt joins SV Werder Bremen from TSG Hoffenheim on a loan deal until the end of the season. The former TSG captain watched Werder’s friendly match against Hannover on Sunday and will undergo some fitness tests on Monday, before training with his new teammates for the first time on Wednesday.

“We are delighted that we were able to sign Kevin. He is an experienced Bundesliga player, who took responsibility at Hoffenheim as a captain and a top player. He fits the profile of what we’re after. We’re confident that he will be able to help us get out of our difficult situation straightaway,” said sporting director Frank Baumann.

Head coach Florian Kohfeldt was also pleased with the new signing. “Kevin has a lot of qualities that we can benefit from, like speed and a good outlet pass. He stays calm under pressure and has a good attitude and presence on the pitch. He can also play as a centre-back or as a defensive midfielder, which gives us more options.”

Kevin Vogt is himself confident about the challenges ahead: “Everything has happened really quickly over the last couple of days and now I’m just happy that I can play football here for the next few months. My conversations with the coach convinced me that this was the right move. I like the way Florian thinks about football. I can really identify with his philosophy. I am ready to work hard and reap the rewards. I’m looking forward to the second half of the season and to playing in our home stadium. It was always difficult coming here as an opposition player because of there’s an incredible energy. We want to celebrate a lot more wins with the fans.”

The 1.94m tall defender has made 213 Bundesliga appearances, playing for TSG Hoffenheim, 1.FC Köln, FC Augsburg and VfL Bochum. He has three Bundesliga goals to his name. The former Germany U21 player has played eleven times for Hoffenheim this season. The 28-year-old will wear the number 3 jersey for Werder.
