Werder Bremen’s team captain Niklas Moisander will continue to play a key role in Werder’s defence. The 34-year-old Finn has extended his contract at the Weserstadion. This was announced by Werder CEO Frank Baumann at the club’s general meeting on Monday evening.
“Niklas has had a very high reputation with us for years. With his experience and calm nature, he is the sort of consummate professional that we have unfortunately had to do without for the last few weeks, but now we believe that he will continue to be a very important piece of our squad for the future,” explained Frank Baumann.
Head coach Florian Kohfeldt also enjoys the level of recognition that the former Finland international is getting: “I have emphasized again and again with strong reason that Niklas is absolutely one of the leaders of the defence. He is an important touchstone for me as a coach, as a captain who plays an important role in the locker room. Therefore I am very happy that he will continue to be a part of our squad in the future.”

Niklas Moisander moved to Werder Bremen in 2016 from Sampdoria. He has been captain at Werder since the summer, and has made 88 appearances for them in the Bundesliga, scoring two goals.
