It was a disappointing evening for SV Werder on Bundesliga Matchday 14 as they fell to a last minute defeat against SC Paderborn (1-0). The Green Whites were missing the key features that led them to last week’s 3-2 win over Wolfsburg in the match against the newly-promoted side. “We didn’t press as well as we wanted to. The longer it stayed at 0-0, the more nervous we got,” Florian Kohfeldt said after the game. Ludwig Augustinsson described their late winner as “a punch in the stomach.”

On the match:

Florian Kohfeldt: "It hurt a lot, because we didn’t deserve anything today. We didn’t do enough to win the game. Our pressing didn’t go the way we wanted it to. We’d been quite relaxed all week, but that turned into tension before the game. With every minute at 0-0 we became more erratic."

Niklas Moisander: "We’re very disappointed. We wanted a home win and three points. Our pressing game wasn’t good and we didn’t show enough intensity. We have to do much more, show more courage and be more aggressive. Only then can we win games, We need to analyse the defeat extensively and bounce back from it.

Ludwig Augustinsson: "We are very disappointed to have lost today. We talked before the game about pressing, desire and intensity, but we lacked all of that. Paderborn were able to pass it around too easily, they had too much space. We have to be very critical – I don’t know what was going on with us today."

Frank Baumann: "It’s very disappointing to lose to bottom of the league. There wouldn’t have been any complaints about a draw after that game, but even that would have been too little for us. We lacked intensity – we wanted to attack, but made bad decisions in trying to do so."

On their goal:

Florian Kohfeldt: “At first it looked like it was a clear offside so I was relaxed, even when they started to check the goal. But at the end of the day you have to accept the referee’s decision.”

Niklas Moisander: “It all happened really quickly. We cleared the ball out of our area and then they scored. For me the goalscorer was two metres offside; I couldn’t believe it.”

Ludwig Augustinsson: “It was so fast. I can’t say whether it was offside or not. The goal felt like a punch in the stomach.”

On Moisander’s comeback:

Niklas Moisander: “It’s really disappointing for me because I wanted to come back with a win. In terms of my fitness, I felt okay. My calf felt completely felt. I’m glad that I played the whole 90 minutes but that’s not important at the moment.”

Ludwig Augustinsson: “He played really well and managed to complete the full 90 minutes. But we all need to just look at ourselves after today.”
