Finally a clean sheet! For Jiri Pavlenka, getting his first clean sheet of the season is a huge relief. “It was really important for me,” Pavlenka said to WERDER.DE. The 1-0 win against Fortuna Düsseldorf showed the whole defence, “that we can play strong defensively.”
Fortuna had 18 shots on target on Saturday. Seven were blocked by Pavlenka’s back line, two forced the ‘keeper to intervene, and the rest failed to cause any danger. That Werder, “conceded relatively few chances,” speaks volumes as to the influence of Marco Friedl. Pavlenka also enjoyed the fact that, “Düsseldorf didn’t have a single huge chance. That makes me happy. This win was very important for the mind. When you are on a five-game losing streak, it is very mentally challenging.”
The Czech is eager to continue this form against Hoffenheim on Sunday (15:30 CET). “We need to finally take three points back to Bremen,” claims Pavlenka, and preferably not concede any goals while doing so.
