The young centre back Maik Nawrocki has signed his first ever professional contract at SV Werder Bremen. The local lad, who has played for his boyhood club since he was just five years old, has been playing for the U19s so far this season.
The young centre back Maik Nawrocki has signed his first ever professional contract at SV Werder Bremen. The local lad, who has played for his boyhood club since he was just five years old, has been playing for the U19s so far this season.
“In Maik, we’ve managed to tie down an exciting defensive prospect for the future. We’re delighted with his development and looking forward to watching him play in Green and White over the next few years,” said sporting director Frank Baumann.
Björn Schierenbeck, head of the Werder performance centre, added, “Maik’s fantastic development emphasises just how good of a job our coaches and staff have been doing in the Werder performance centre. We’re really happy that he has the opportunity to take the next step into the first team.”
Nawrocki, who has already racked up 33 appearances for the Polish youth national team, as well as being named in last year’s squad for the U20 World Cup, is proud to have signed his first professional contract. “As a boy from Bremen, it’s an absolute honour to have signed a contract here at Werder. I’m looking forward to taking the next step in my career here and hopefully making it into the first team,” said the 19-year-old.
Nawrocki has made ten appearances for the U19s so far this season, scoring five goals for theU19 Bundesliga Nord/Nord-Ost league leaders. He also made his first ever appearance in the Regionalliga for the U23s back in June, before making his first team debut in a friendly against FC St. Pauli in October. The physical defender has already made nine competitive appearances for Poland’s U19 side, scoring twice.
