SV Werder Bremen’s upcoming home game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen has been cancelled, Bremen’s senator of home affairs Ulrich Mäuerer decided on Friday. The decision was made after local authorities predicted that 2,000 to 3,000 fans were expected to turn up outside the stadium for the game, explained the Mayor of Bremen, Andreas Bovenschulte.

The city of Bremen had already banned events of more than 1,000 people at the start of the week due to fears surrounding the outbreak of Coronavirus. Following this decision, the senator of home affairs came to the decision to cancel Monday’s game.
