SV Werder Bremen have signed defender Michael Lang on loan from Borussia Mönchengladbach. Werder’s sporting director Frank Baumann and Borussia’s club representatives agreed on a one-year loan deal for the Switzerland international with 30 caps to his name.

"Following Ludwig Augustinsson and Ömer Toprak’s long-term injuries, we re-prioritised our recruitment targets and began looking for an experienced defender who can help us out straight away. Michael ticks the boxes – he’s a reliable player with international experience who knows the Bundesliga well and will fit into our team as a person," commented Frank Baumann, pleased about the new signing.

Head coach Florian Kohfeldt was equally pleased about the 28-year-old’s arrival in Bremen: "Michael is a versatile defender who can play at fullback and centre back. He gives us an important option at the back. He is also fully fit and in the swing of training, which is a big plus."

"I had a very good feeling straight away at Werder and I was sure from the start that I wanted to take this opportunity. When I spoke to the club directors it became clear that this was the right decision. Now I’m just looking forward to getting started," said Lang.

In the summer of 2018, Michael Lang moved to Mönchengladbach from FC Basel, where he won two Swiss championships and one Swiss cup. In 2018/19, he made 17 appearances for the Foals, scoring one goal in the process.
