Despite a poor record in recent history, head coach Florian Kohfeldt is optimistic for the upcoming game against FC Bayern. The 37-year-old wants to focus on the game ahead and isn’t thinking too much about the home game against Mainz during the week. “I’ll worry about that at 17:30 CET on Saturday,” Kohfeldt said at the pre-match press conference on Thursday. The head coach is currently working on a game plan to help his side get something from the game in Munich. “We will put out the best team we possibly can on Saturday,” Kohfeldt said. The coach isn’t thinking about rotating any players in preparation for the following week.

The last time SV Werder visited the Allianz Arena they fell to a narrow 1-0 loss, with Bayern scoring the winner 15 minutes from time. Despite a solid defensive performance the Green-Whites went home without any points, which has often been the story for SVW over the past few years. However, Florian Kohfeldt played down the importance of their recent results in Thursday’s press conference, “What’s happened in previous years has no effect on this game. Whether it be one year ago or ten years ago, it doesn’t matter. We want to take points home to Bremen.”

Therefore it goes without saying that Kohfeldt isn’t willing to rest any of his key players in preparation for the crucial home game against Mainz next week. “No one goes to Munich and rests players. Even though we’re not on a good run of form at the moment, we are coming to Munich in order to take away points. So we will play our best team possible,” Kohfeldt said. The 37-year-old will only plan his team for Mainz as early as “17:30 CET on Saturday.”

This means that there will be no rest for Niklas Moisander, who could potentially play his third match in just nine days against Mainz. “Yesterday he said he’s feeling in top condition so he will play,” said Kohfeldt. The 34-year-old and the rest of the team will give everything they have to pick up as many points as they can over the next three matches.
