While some players arrive at the wohninvest WESERSTADION to begin their sessions, others are leaving the grounds. A system that Florian Kohfeldt welcomes in light of the current worldwide situation, “It allows you to get back onto the pitch and into the football mindset again,” said the head coach optimistically on Wednesday.

After spending the past few weeks working exclusively on improving their fitness levels, the squad are now able to return to working with the ball again. The designated training groups have been formed based on tactical reasons. Examples of this are specific training sessions based on building up from the back for a group of centre backs, or cutting in from the wings to create chances for Augustinsson, Lang and Sargent. “Despite the current situation, we want to guarantee the best possible training methods for our players, whilst following the recommended guidelines,” Kohfeldt gave the fans an insight into the team’s current training plan.

However, despite having an almost fully fit squad to his disposal, the head coach is still unable to lead matches or tackling drills in his sessions. “We’re maintaining the recommended distancing on the pitch; there is no physical contact. But we can still work on technical and tactical aspects within the groups,” said the 37-year-old.

There’s still no master plan yet regarding a resumption in play. “It wouldn’t be possible to prepare as normal,” said the boss. On the one hand, it is still unclear as to when the Bundesliga will return and, on the other hand, Kohfeldt believes a training camp or even friendly matches simply wouldn’t be possible. In terms of the overall situation, Kohfeldt emphasises, “Sport comes second. It’s much more important that we beat this societal challenge. We need to take the situation as it is and make the best of it.”
