SV Werder Bremen have extended Christian Groß’s contract. The U23 captain has been training with the first team since the beginning of pre-season and has been convincing with his performances in the Bundesliga. “Grosso has absolutely earned this extension with his performances in the last few weeks and months. He has showed us how good he is in both training and in matches so it was clear to us very quickly that we wanted to keep him around. We have therefore reached an agreement for him to continue his playing career here at Werder,” explained sporting director Frank Baumann.

“Grosso has been simply sensational for us and he’s played an important role in our team this season. The experience he’s getting in the first time will continually help him as captain of the U23s so he can be even more important for them. He was given his Bundesliga debut at the age of 30 and since then he has shown that he can play at his level – I respect him a lot,” said head coach Florian Kohfeldt who was full of praise for the midfielder. Groß has since established himself at centre-back for the first team.

Christian Groß is incredibly excited about his new contract and that he has committed his future to Werder. “To have extended my contract here feels great. I’ve had so many great moments in the past few months and I’m looking forward to what’s to come."

The Bremen born lad joined in the 2018/19 season from VfL Osnabrück and has played for the U23 side ever since, eclipsing 31 games (9 goals) in the Regionalliga. Groß was put in to the first team during pre-season due to the number of absentees in the squad and has played five times for the team (4 Bundesliga, 1 DFB-Pokal).
