SV Werder Bremen have added to their ranks on Transfer Deadline Day: Davie Selke joins from Hertha BSC. Werder’s sporting director, Frank Baumann, has come to an agreement with the capital club for the striker to join on loan until 30th June 2021, with an obligation-to-buy if certain conditions are met.

“We’re delighted that we could sign Davie just before the window closes. He fits the type of profile we were looking for and will be able to help us throughout the rest of the season,” Frank Baumann explained. Florian Kohfeldt is also looking forward to see the striker return, who made 36 appearances for the Green-Whites between 2013-2015, scoring ten goals. “Davie is a quick and dynamic striker, who is strong in the air. He is a handful for defenders and provides a solid goal threat. He adds another dimension to our attack with his abilities,” the head coach said about the transfer.

Davie Selke is feeling good about his return to the club, “Werder has always meant a lot to me; they gave me the opportunity to become a professional footballer. So it feels like I’m coming home. I’m really looking forward to working with Florian and the rest of the team. I want to do everything I can to help get the team out of the relegatin zone as soon as possible.”

Davie Selke has made a total of 130 Bundesliga appearances in his career so far for Hertha BSC, RB Leipzig and Werder Bremen, scoring 27 goals. The 25-year-old joined Bremen as an U21 player, making his Bundesliga debut against Hannover 96 in the 2013/14 season. The 2017 U21 European champion will wear the #9 shirt and will go straight into the squad for the weekend’s game against Augsburg.
