It’s not been an easy ride for Ludwig Augustinsson. Having only just returned to the team in winter after fully recovering from last summer’s knee surgery, a muscle strain in his thigh threw another spanner into the works. With the end-of-season run-in approaching, the Swede wants to get back on the pitch and help his team fight against relegation with his "quality, his energy and his hunger."

Like many others in the squad, Ludwig Augustinsson has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines. Due to three separate injuries, the Swede has only been able to make six Bundesliga appearances in 2019/20, providing one assist in the process. Now, he wants to start again. He wants to prove his "qualities both going forward and defensively" in the closing stages of the campaign, helping his team avoid the drop.

"I can give the team quality on the left wing and feed the attacking players with passes and crosses. I’m returning, hungry and full of energy," said the Sweden international. The kind of hunger he will also be expecting from his teammates: "Everyone knows where we are in the table and what we’re fighting for now. We need to show that on the pitch now. Every single one of us needs to give an extra 15 percent," said Augustinsson.

This extra 15 percent is exactly what winning and losing will come down to in the relegation battle. If everyone stays fit, Augustinsson thinks Werder have a "good chance" of staying up. Twelve games, "twelve cup finals," as the fullback put it, are still to be played. This is the final third of the season. "We all believe in ourselves."
