They’ve taken their first step! Werder are into the second round of the DFB-Pokal after a 6-1 win over Wormatia Worms. Worms had the first chance of the game, but Werder’s class then started to show through. The Green-Whites scored five before half time to set themselves well on the way to victory. Academy-product Johannes Eggestein added another in the second-half, with 6-1 the final score.

Line-up and formation: Head coach Florian Kohfeldt made only one change from the friendly against Villarreal. Milot Rashica dropped to the bench, with Yuya Osako starting alongside Max Kruse and Florian Kainz in a 4-3-3 formation. Maxi Eggestein and Davy Klaassen were tasked with pulling the strings in midfield, in front of Werder veteran Philipp Bargfrede. Kohfeldt stuck with the same defence as last season, with Augustinsson and Gebre Selassie either side of Moisander and Veljkovic in the centre. Jiri Pavlenka started in goal.
