All eyes are on him as he enters the room. Stefanos Kapino, a giant, standing 6 feet 4 inches tall (1.96m), takes his seat with a broad grin. Werder’s new ‘keeper is an extremely polite interview partner, thanking the journalists after every question. He’s asked how it feel to “just” be Werder’s number two. A question that has to be posed to him, as his role here at SVW has been clearly defined - to complete the Green-White goalkeeper team and be Jiri Pavlenka’s back-up. But is he satisfied with just playing second fiddle? Absolutely not. “Sometime in the future, I’d like to be the number one here,” he said with confidence. “I’m sure I can do it.”

Kapino consciously opted for the Weser, choosing the Green-Whites over his other options. “I had other offers, I could have also gone to other clubs to be number one,” he revealed. So why did he choose SVW? “Werder are Werder, a big club in the Bundesliga,” explained the Greek, who’s happy to have finally arrived in Bremen. And what are his immediate plans for the future? “I’ll train hard and always give 100 percent. I’ll be ready if I’m needed.”

The 24 year old brings a lot of experience to his new club. He played for both Olympiakos and Panathinaikos in his homeland 48 times, while also having a spells in England at Nottingham Forest and in Germany at Mainz 05. Additionally, he was called up to Greece’s squad for the 2014 World Cup. “I want to help the team,” said Werder’s new number 27. For the Green-Whites, Kapino sees it as an advantage to have such strong back-up ‘keepers. “It increases the competition for places between Pavlenka, Drobny, the younger keepers and myself - that’s good for the team,” he explained. “It'll help us improve.”
