Megabit wins VBL Grand Final against MoAuba

Michael “MegaBit” Bittner is the German eFootball Champion for 2019 and Werder have won the double in the TAG Heuer Virtual Bundesliga! Things couldn’t have gone better for Werder eSports players Mohammed “MoAuba” Harkous and Michael “MegaBit” Bittner. After two nerve-racking days, with goals in injury time, it was an all-Werder final with the two pitted against each other, meaning Werder have Club Championship and Grand Final wins. Werder’s Xbox player beat MoAuba 4-3 and 4-2, securing the club’s second championship of the season.

VBL Grand Final day 1

The group stages of the Virtual Bundesliga took place on 11 May in Berlin. MoAuba got off to a great start in the group stage of the PS4 competition, winning his first three games. He then lost his fourth game but won his final match 2-1 to win the group. “The first three games I played quite well, but the final two games were a little shaky,” he said.

 

MegaBit’s campaign got underway in the afternoon, beginning with a 2-2 draw. He won his second game 5-0 but then two just two points from the next two games. MegaBit had to win his final game to get into the wildcard round and did so, with a 2-0 victory. He then beat Sn0wGoogles 5-3 in the wildcard round to get through to the finals.

 

VBL Grand Final Day 2

The competition entered its knockout stage on day two with both Green-White players in contention of winning the overall tournament. In his PS4 quarter-final, MoAuba secured a 5-2 victory against DrErhano before going on to face Czudemi in his semi-final. After a 2-2 draw in the first leg, the Werder player was on the verge of tournament elimination after falling 4-3 behind on aggregate in second leg extra time. However, MoAuba scored a last minute penalty to draw level on aggregate a seal a place in the PS4 final on away goals. Facing cl23__leon in the final, Mo became PS4 champion with a 6-3 win and confirmed his place in the VBL Grand Final.

 

Meanwhile, in the Xbox tournament, MegaBit eased his way into the final with a comfortable 8-4 quarter-final victory and a 9-2 semi-final victory against DerGaucho. The Green-White player faced FC Augsburg’s Yannic0109 in a tense and close final. MegaBit fell behind in the 89th minute of the first leg only to secure a last-gasp 2-2 draw. In the second leg, Michi battled to a 2-0 victory to seal a 4-2 aggregate triumph and an all Werder VBL Grand Final. The Xbox champion would face fellow Green-White player MoAuba to be crowned German eFootball Champion 2019.

The final consisted of one Xbox match and one PS4 match. Despite the first match being on MegaBit’s preferred game console, it was MoAuba who carried a 3-2 lead into the closing stages. However, Michi scored twice late on to carry a narrow 4-3 lead into the PS4 match. In the second match, MegaBit withstood a spirited fightback from MoAuba to seal a 4-2 win on the PS4 and a 8-5 aggregate win across both matches. Michael “MegaBit” Bittner was then crowned German eFootball Champion for 2019 to complete the double for WERDER eSPORTS, who had already won the VBL Club Championship.
