SV Werder Bremen have added reinforcements to their defence as they signed Denmark international Jannik Verstergaard. The 22-year-old defensive specialist comes from 1899 Hoffenheim and signed with the Green-Whites on a three-and-a-half contract until 30 June 2018.
The Dane, who despite his age has already appeared in 70 Bundesliga matches, passed the physical Tuesday morning and will join training under head coach Viktor Skripnik starting on Wednesday. "We want to continue to develop the roster and wanted a player like Jannik Vestergaard. He is strong in the middle, really exudes a physical presence and is tactically very well trained," said the Werder coach.
Werder's manager of sports Thomas Eichin added: "We have looked at him for some time and agreed within the team that Jannik Vestergaard brings the perfect mix of experience and potential to develop that we can build upon in the future. He has the goods to make an impact in our team."
Vestergaard transferred in 2010 from the U19 juniors of Bröndy Copenhagen to Hoffenheim's U23 side and made the jump to the professional squad just a year later. Since then, the Copenhagen native has appeared in 70 Bundesliga matches and scored four goals.
