Werder Bremen have acquired the services of Swedish international Markus Rosenberg from Ajax Amsterdam. The 24 year old striker has signed a contract until 30.06.2011.

Werder Bremen have acquired the services of Swedish international Markus Rosenberg from Ajax Amsterdam. The 24 year old striker has signed a contract until 30.06.2011. On the wishes of the Ajax club, the financial details of the deal have been kept under wraps. Rosenberg would be eligible to play Sunday’s tie against Hanover 96 should need be.

 

General manager Klaus Allofs commented: “Markus Rosenberg is fast, two-footed, technically capable and is strong in the air. With such abilities he can add new elements to our game. At Ajax he was no longer first choice but we are completely convinced of his capabilities.

 

Markus Rosenberg began his career in 2001 at his home town club Malmo. The 24 year old made his real breakthrough in the 2004%2005 seasonplaying on loan at Halmstads BK where he scored 14 goals in just 26 games. Following his return to Malmo FF, the 1,84m and 81kg striker made a €5,3 million move to Ajax Amsterdam in June 2005. During his first season in the Dutch league, Rosenberg scored twelve goals in 31 appearances. In January 2005 he made his debut for the Swedish national team and was a member of the squad who partook in the 2006 FIFA World Cup but didn’t get a run out.

Werder Bremen invite all interested press representatives to a press conference on Friday, 26.01.2007 at 1:30pm. Markus Rosenberg will be officially presented to the press during the appointment with trainer Thomas Schaaf and general manager Klaus Allofs to take questions from the journalists. The event will take place at the Press Room at the east stand of the Weser Stadium.
