Head coach Ole Werner: We lost to a very strong Leipzig side today because we made too many mistakes on the ball. Leipzig were very clinical and you could see their quality, particularly on the counter. We also had our moments though. We’re a team who want to play football and we want to keep developing.”
Niklas Stark: “We were a bit too careless with the goals we conceded. We might have had a chance today, but we made too many mistakes and that made it difficult to get anything. That’s hard to accept and is disappointing, but everyone got stuck in and wanted to get something here. I think we played well here today. Now, it’s about staying positive.”
Marvin Ducksch: “It’s really disappointing because we started well and scored a really good team goal for the equaliser. We had a good plan, but conceded goals too easily. We were too naïve. We knew we were playing against a top team. We played well overall though, which makes the defeat so disappointing. We won’t dwell on it though, and we’ll keep looking ahead.”
Mitchell Weiser: “It’s disappointing, because we had a good game plan. In the end, that didn’t matter though. Our own mistakes were decisive, because we were punished clinically. Leipzig have a lot of individual quality and showed that with their ice-cold finishing. We’ll analyse the game and keep working. We now have an opportunity to make up for this in midweek under the floodlights.”

Issa Kaboré: “That was a tough game. We now have to put a line through it and keep going. It felt good to be given my debut today.”
Managing director for sport Clemens Fritz: “We found the spaces well in possession, but we were the missing that final touch. We left too much room for the goals we conceded. We have to improve in that regard. After half time, we wanted to go for it and had a game plan, but it was difficult for us after conceding so early.”
Head of professional football Peter Niemeyer: “Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes. We had good phases in the game, but were missing that cutting edge. Leipzig have a huge amount of quality and play with a high tempo.”
