For the second time in this 2024/25 season, there will be a short break from Bundesliga action as the men’s national sides take centre stage. Five SV Werder players are heading out on international duty.

“I have always made it clear that it is my intention to consistently be in the squad and compete to play matches,” Marco Friedl told WERDER.DE. “I will go and enjoy playing with the national team and try to give the best showing that I can.” The 26-year-old has made the Austria squad for the first time in over two years and he and club teammate Romano Schmid will be hoping to only be handed more international caps. Coach Ralf Rangnick’s team will face Kazakhstan (10/10, kick-off 20:45 CEST) and Norway (13/10, kick-off 20:45 CEST) in the UEFA Nations League in Linz.

Jens Stage is also hoping to be able to pull on his national team’s colours again. Werder’s number six has played once for his country to date, that coming in November 2021. However, his hat-trick away to TSG Hoffenheim is sure to put him right back in the mix for some game time. The Danish national team is currently in a transitional phase after long-serving coach Kasper Hjulmand stepped down after the European Championship, with his former assistant coach Morten Wieghorst taking over on an interim basis. Stage and his national teammates’ upcoming fixtures in the Nations League consist of a trip to face Spain in Murcia (12/10, kick-off 20:45 CEST) before taking on Switzerland in St. Gallen (15/10, kick-off 20:45 CEST).

For Isak Hansen-Aarøen, another crucial international break is approaching fast. The midfielder is part of the Norway U21 side still battling for a ticket to the European Championship. In order to secure their passage to the tournament, Hansen-Aarøen & co. will travel to Cork for their clash with the Republic of Ireland (11/10, kick-off 20:00 CEST). With a win, the Norwegians would retain the possibility of securing a play-off spot or even direct qualification for the European Championship going into the final group game against Türkiye in Stavanger (15/10, kick-off 18:30 CEST). Goalkeeper Mio Backhaus will also be in action with the Germany U20 national team. They are scheduled to face Poland in the U20 Elite League (11/10, kick-off 17:30 CEST) before taking on Ghana in a friendly match (14/10, kick-off 17:30 CEST).
