The 2023/24 season has officially come to an end for SV Werder Bremen after they triumphed 9-4 in a friendly against Blumenthaler SV. Just like in the last friendly, the Green-Whites’ side featured a mix of first-team players and young talents.

First-half highlights:

8th minute: GOAL! Ducksch plays Agu through on goal but the defender’s shot is parried away by Blumenthal’s keeper. The ball lands at U19 player Salim Musah’s feet, who slots it into the back of the net to give the Green-Whites the lead.

12th minute: Another! Ducksch and Hansen-Aarøen combine nicely, but the final pass takes a deflection off an opposition defender. The ball balloons up into the air and into the path of Jens Stage, who produces an exquisite finish with the outside of his boot to double Werder’s advantage.

14th minute: A quickfire brace for Jens! Stage picks up the ball on the edge of the box and lets fly. His effort beats BSV’s keeper and finds the back of the net via the woodwork to make it 3-0.

24th minute: Musah’s second of the match! Baum’s lovely whipped cross into the box finds Stage. Werder’s number six cuts the ball back to the 18-year-old, who pokes it home to extend SVW’s advantage.

30th minute: Hat-trick for Salim! Captain Friedl’s cross into the middle finds Musah, who is in the right place at the right time once again to give Werder a five-goal cushion.

35th minute: The hosts get one back. After a mistimed kick from Zetterer hits an opposition player, Agu tries to clear the danger. He is charged down by Lammers, however, and the ball deflects off the striker’s shin and loops over a stranded Zetterer and into the back of the net.

41st minute: Ducksch gets in on the action! Hansen-Aarøen squares the ball to SVW’s number 7, who curls it into the far corner to make it 6-1 to the visitors.

44th minute: Blumenthal score again. Lentz lines up a shot from the edge of the box that flies into the bottom-left corner. The referee blows the half-time whistle shortly afterwards, with a 6-2 scoreline in Werder’s favour going into the break.

More goals as heavens open

Second-half highlights:

55th minute: Seventh heaven! Woltemade heads home from Joas’ cross to draw first blood for Werder after the interval.

73rd minute: It’s eight! Some nice passing play from Woltemade and Kownacki ends with the latter poking the ball into the back of the net.

81st minute: The hosts get their third. Sakinc reduces the deficit to five for BSV.

83rd minute: Instant response! SVW get the ball up the other end of the pitch immediately after conceding, with Kownacki bagging the Green-Whites’ ninth of the afternoon.

87th minute: A consolation for the home side. A thunderbolt from Sakinc smashes the underside of the bar and goes over the line.

90+4th minute: The referee blows the whistle and Werder round the 2023/24 season off with a 9-4 win over Blumenthaler SV.
