SV Werder’s first home game of the new Bundesliga season takes place on Saturday 13.08.22 (15:30 CEST). Werner’s team welcome VfB Stuttgart to the wohninvest WESERSTADION. It will also be Werner’s first home game as a Bundesliga head coach. But even as a promoted side, Werner and the team want to show that they belong in this league: “we are a newly promoted side and have to work hard for everything. That won’t be any different against Stuttgart. The goal is and remains to win every game,” explained Werner at Thursday’s press conference.

The main task against Stuttgart is clear for the head coach: “we have to work as a team and push our performance, both physically and mentally, to our limits. We have been aware of this challenge for a long time and it is nothing new for a promoted side to have to work hard.” The head coach made clear that the goal in every game is to win. “It doesn’t matter to us whether the opposition is Bayern Munich or VfB Stuttgart. We go onto the pitch every week to win. We don’t need an orientation lesson from our opponents. We are going to continue playing our way. We’ve already shown against Wolfsburg what we are capable of,” explained Werner. “Now we must build on that performance. We want to bag our first win against Stuttgart with the support of our fans.”

This support from the fans is an important factor for Ole Werner and his Werder side. “You noticed it last week, and that wasn’t even all Werder fans in the stadium. That support, no matter what form it takes, just like the noise behind us last week, carries us on the pitch. And we need that. A few players said it already after the match that the effort from the fans was immense. Now we are looking forward to the first home game in front of our own fans, especially because we just know that support is going to be epic,” beamed the 34-year-old. “The impact that comes from our home fans sets us apart, even if we enter the game as underdogs. The fans don’t care who we are playing next, they are always involved regardless. We are counting on the fact that this level of support will come against Stuttgart and then we can celebrate a win with the fans.”
