Clemens Fritz says that the winter transfer period is over for SV Werder Bremen. “We can rule out the possibility of anything happening for us both coming in and going out,” said the head of scouting and professional football. It was a relaxed deadline day for Fritz, but there was some activity in the transfer window the day before.
It began with Oliver Burke moving in the wish to get more game time. “We are happy that Millwall were able to sign Oliver on loan,” revealed Fritz to journalists. “He knows the team well and we therefore think that he will get match practice.”
The economic situation played a role in all the decisions. Fritz stressed that the loan of Maximilian Philipp wouldn’t have been possible without the move for Burke. “We also had to be ready if an exceptional offer came for Niclas Füllkrug,” explained the 42-year-old. “We had to be ready to react.”
For this reason, the head of scouting doesn’t look enviously on the transfers of their competition. At the same time, the Green-Whites did explore their options. “We did our homework and of course spoke about Thomas Delaney,” said Fritz, speaking about his former teammate. “It just wasn’t realistic for us, however.”
“The feeling is good,” stressed Fritz. “We have played lots of great games and knew that there would be harder times. What’s important is that we stay calm and focus on the work to be done.”
