Werder striker Claudio Pizarro has been handed a three match suspension by the German Football Federation (DFB) following an individual hearing by the DFB’s supervisory committee on Monday. The panel issued the ban as a result of Pizarro’s slap against Karlsruhe’s Martin Stoll, which has been classified as unsportsmanlike conduct following provocation. Pizarro and Werder Bremen have accepted the DFB’s decision. The suspension means that the Peruvian striker will miss out on the final pre-winter break clash with VfL Wolfsburg (Sat. 13.12.2008) as well as the first two Bundesliga games in 2009 (against Arminia Bielefeld, Sun. 01.02.09 and Schalke 04, Sat. 07.02.09). In addition, the DFB’s supervisory committee have opened investigations into Diego. The Brazilian midfielder was captured on film as he grabbed KSC’s Christian Eichner by the neck shortly after Claudio Pizarro was shown the red card in the 90th minute of Werder’s 0-1 away defeat. |
