The Dons finished third to last in the relegation tournament.

FC Aberdeen experienced their most successful time under current Manchester United coaching legend Sir Alex Ferguson. Before moving to ManU in 1986, Ferguson won three titles with Aberdeen (1980, 1984 and 1985) as well as four Scottish Cups (1982, 1983, 1984 and 1986). There was also winning the 1983 European Cup Winners Cup title, beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the final.
