1-0 win over Aberdeen

Eljero Elia scored to give Werder a 1-0 lead over FC Aberdeen.
Werder passed their second really tough test of the season preparations as Thomas Schaaf's team beat FC Aberdeen 1-0 Tuesday evening at Oldenburg's Marschweg Stadium. As opposed to their previous tests, the Green-Whites travelled with an 18-man squad for the game. Missing however was Philipp Bargfrede, who suffered a left knee injury Tuesday afternoon in training.

Werder played in black jerseys and started strong though Sokratis needed to stop the Scots' first attack separating Niall McGinn from the ball. Werder answered down the right side as Zlatko Junuzovic passed to Nils Petersen though the Scottish defence was there to stop his shot in the third minute.

Captain Clemens Fritz was a good example with his motivation. Captain Clemens Fritz was a good example with his motivation.
Werder really got things going after about 10 minutes as Theo Gebre Selassie had the first top chance in the 12th minute as the newcomer ran into the area on the right side though his shot found only the side netting. A few minutes later, Marko Arnautovic found room on the left wing to feed Petersen, who headed off the crossbar in the 23rd minute. The opening goal finally fell in the 24th minute as "Juno" collected a ball and crossed to Elia, who ran onto Jason Brown's goal, circled around him and shot into the far corner for a 1-0 lead after 24 minutes. That was also the lead at halftime.

In the end, Elia had another superb chance but his blast was stopped by Brown in the 89th minute. The game ended shortly thereafter with a deserved 1-0 win for Werder Bremen.
