Werder’s Lennart Thy set up the go-ahead goal by Markus Rosenberg.

Werder Bremen appeared to be on their way to a much-deserved victory in their test match against Olympiacos Piraeus Tuesday night 27 July 2011 in Meppen. But in their dress rehearsal for the German DFB Cup first round match at Heidenheim on Saturday, the Green-Whites were leading the Greek record champions until the final minute on Markus Rosenberg's 1-0 goal in the 58th minute. Then Francois Modesto scored the equaliser in stoppage time for Olympiacos.

Everything was in order in Werder world after Rosenberg’s go-ahead goal. Everything was in order in Werder world after Rosenberg’s go-ahead goal.

As opposed to their mini-tournament in Southampton, where the Green-Whites lost both of their 45-minute matches against the hosts and Athletic Bilbao, Werder left a strong impression in the MEP Arena with a energetic and goal-orientated manner, especially in the early stages.

Rosenberg gave Werder the lead in the 58th minute as part of a strong showing. Olympiacos had two top-notch chances just before the final whistle, the first being saved in fine fashion by goalkeeper Tim Wiese. The second was cleared at the line by a Bremen player, but Modesto scored the equaliser for the guests in stoppage time, snatching a victory out of the hands of Werder.
