Going to the limit, leaving last place

This kind of start is nothing new for Markus Weinzierl's team. Augsburg started slow last season before the promoted side put together a strong second half of the season and finished a respectable 14th place to avoid relegation. But nobody in Augsburg wants to depend on getting a lot of points in the second half. Augsburg are hoping to finally win a game, at best on Friday against Werder. "We have to stop the individual mistakes which are making our lives very difficult and the attack must become more dangerous," said Weinzierl.
Werder nearly had the victory locked up in the last showdown before FCA scored the late 1-1 equaliser. Here, Tom Trybull (left) goes at it against Ja-Cheol Koo.Last season, Augsburg and Werder played to two 1-1 draws. Before that, the teams played in 2010 when Werder won 2-0 in the semi-finals of the German DFB Cup in Bremen to reach the final and eventually win the title. Now Augsburg are hoping for their first victory against Werder. "We have to go to our limits," demanded Weinzierl. The team has struggled to do that this season, especially in converting their goal chances. Together with Greuther Fürth and VfL Wolfsburg, Augsburg have scored the fewest goals in the league with just two - scored by Tobias Werner and former Bremen player Torsten Oehrl.
The match doesn't really promise a spectacular football night between Augsburg and Werder. Both teams are desperate for every point, if possible all three. FCA want to leave the cellar of the league while Werder are dreaming of a small winning streak after failing to pick up points despite good performances. Teams in this mind frame rarely go out to the pitch and play magical football. It doesn't matter how, but Werder want to pick up three points in Augsburg.
