Shock for Clemens Fritz

Clemens Fritz will miss six weeks!
Clemens Fritz left training yesterday as a precaution but today followed the truly painful diagnosis for the 31-year-old as Werder's captain suffered a pulled tendon in the adductors section and will miss at least six weeks of action. "Due to the complicated location and special structure of the tendon, it will need a lot of time to heal," said team doctor Götz Dimanski.

Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf regrets that Fritz will be out of his line-up. "He had been in good form in the last couple weeks and really had some good showings. He was really very valuable for the team, especially in the manner in which he played. But we have enough defensive players to take over his position and the responsibility," said the Werder coach after Wednesday's afternoon training.

While Fritz was out of practice, on the training grounds were Alexander Hahn and Florian Nagel from Werder's U23 team and Julian von Haacke of the club's U19 team. The three youth footballers are on the roster for Thursday's test match against SV Heiligenfelde as is Mor Pouye, who is currently going through a try-out training with the Green-Whites. Niclas Füllkrug, meanwhile, will not be available for the match as he was forced to turn down an invitation to the German U20 national team due to foot problems. It's unclear when he will return to team training.
