Good showing, no points

Marko Arnautovic was stopped by the post in the first half one of many missed chances for Werder.
Werder Bremen's 2-1 opening season loss at Borussia Dortmund provided plenty of disappointment in Green-Whites camp. The performance was too good to stand there empty-handed afterwards, as all agreed. "The team altogether did a very good job. We did better in the back than we did in Münster, but we did not get rid of all our mistakes. And the opponents took advantage of that one more time than we wanted. We couldn't get it done but we would have deserved one point," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf after 90 minutes in Signal Iduna Park.

"We played the game we wanted to up until the opponents' box. We had some good stretches and had faith. But unfortunately we were not effective enough in front of their goal," said Zlatko Junuzovic.

Further reaction to the opening match of the 50th Bundesliga season:
Eljero Elia: "We played a super game, fought well and had some super passing. Unfortunately we were missing the luck today."

Aleksandar Ignjovski: "We met a very good opponent today but still had a lot of good chances. Unfortunately we could not use them. The 1-1 came in the right moment. We should have taken home one point today."

Kevin De Bruyne: "I was somewhat surprised when I found out that I would play in attack. I had never played this position before and it was unusual for me to have two 1.90m guys as markers. Altogether we didn't play bad. Dortmund had problems with us. We are a very young team but we can play well. And we have to want the goal more."

Sokratis: "I knew that we would play better than last week. It was a very, very good team performance. We have a lot of quality this season. We can build upon this match, but have to continue to work hard. Then we can accomplish quite a lot."

Marko Arnautovic: "We had a very good match - with the exception of two mistakes and Dortmund took advantage of them. We demanded quite a bit from the opponents. We can take that into our next games."

Jürgen Klopp: "We went into game with a lot of excitement. You could see after a few minutes why because that was a great game in which Bremen made our life difficult. I agree with Thomas Schaaf when he says that Bremen deserved a point here. That was certainly a lucky victory."
