Kevin de Bruyne joins Werder

"We have intensively observed Kevin for months and since then have had good talks with him and those in charge at Chelsea. Thursday morning we were able to agree on the final contract details. We are happy that we were able to improve the quality of our roster with this signing," said Allofs.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf was happy about the news of Werder's seventh acquisition of the summer. "We are happy that we convinced Kevin on us. He has proved himself over the last few years with some strong performances and should continue to improve our game," said Schaaf. "It's good that the transfer to Bremen is now set. SV Werder have a big tradition and play in one of the best leagues in Europe with full stadiums all the time. I would like show successful football with my new teammates," said the young Belgian after the successful transfer.
The Drongen native transferred on 31 January 2012 from KRC Genk to Chelsea but was immediately sent back to the Belgian team on loan for the rest of the season. De Bruyne played 22 games for Genk, scoring eight goals and assisting on 10 more. The midfielder has played in 96 matches since 2008-09 in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League with 16 goals and 34 assists. De Bruyne has also played 11 international matches (4 times in the Champions League, 2 times in the Champions League qualifiers and 5 times in Europa League qualifiers). De Bruyne celebrated his debut with the Belgian national team on 11 August 2010 in a 1-0 loss in Finland for former head coach Georges Leekens. On 11 Novemberg 2011, Werder's newcomer played again for Belgium playing 11 minutes.
