Sokratis Papastathopoulos arrived overnight Thursday in Donaueschingen.

The transfer of Sokratis Papastathopoulos to Werder Bremen is set as the Greek centre back will play for the Green-Whites with immediate effect. Papastathopoulos and manager Klaus Allofs arrived at Werder training camp in Donaueschingen overnight Thursday after finishing the negotiations. Werder agreed with FC Genua on a one-year loan of Papastathopoulos with a buy-out for next season. Details of the deal were not released.

Allofs was satisfied with the personnel move. "He is a young player who has been able to collect some experience between FC Genua and the Greek national team. When we heard that he had not played with AC Milan, where he was recently on the squad, we immediately expressed our interest. He will certainly help us with his quickness, toughness and ability to open the game," said Allofs.

Before the defender could be officially introduced Thursday afternoon in Donaueschingen, Papastathopoulos had to pass a medical check. The 23-year-old is looking forward to his new challenge. "After the first talks with Klaus Allofs and Thomas Schaaf, it was clear to me immediately that I wanted to accept the offer from Werder. Now I want to integrate myself into the team as quickly as possible and help them," said Papastathopoulos.
